over 3 years ago – Wed, Jan 13, 2021 at 06:30:00 PM

Moving Right Along!

Welcome new citizens! We are now at 68% funded, and just broke the $17k mark! Thank you, and let's keep marching to $20k! I've seen more social shares and group posts in the past few days, let's keep it going! Every post, Like and Comment raises awareness for the game.

Throwing and Elemental Effects Video

This new video focuses on how to throw objects in the game, what they do when thrown, and some simple ways to synergize with throwing.

WARNING: Do not throw real utility poles at your friends! Please wait until Mutanite arrives on your doorstep ^_^ Or you can play on Tabletop Simulator here.

Meeple Mountain Review

Leslie from Meeple Mountain took a look at the game and had this to say:

"I’ve said it over and over, and I’ll say it again, I adore this game! From the artwork to the game play this game just fits right into my wheelhouse. I’ve played it at all player counts and enjoyed it every time. Seriously, if this sounds at all interesting to you, don’t hesitate, go back this on Kickstarter right now!! You won’t regret it!"

Cheers!

New Gameplay Combo Image, Full Card List, 61% Funded!
over 3 years ago – Mon, Jan 11, 2021 at 02:36:54 PM

Happy Monday and Welcome New Backers!

Ok maybe "Happy" Monday is a bit much when you're dragging your feet from the sweetness of the weekend, but this campaign continues to plow forward so I think it's appropriate! Seems like just yesterday we were below 50%, and now we're at 61% funded!

Gameplay Combo Image

As hinted at in previous updates, I've cemented a bunch of gameplay combos in a new image on the page, based on the helpful feedback from backers that:

1) Depth of gameplay isn't obvious, or combos are mentioned but not shown

2) The same powers are featured over and over in the video and other imagery, so where are the others?

SO, here are some more examples of combos in the game! I've tried to span the gamut of positional manipulation, stacked synergies, elemental bonuses, and more strategic play (like a build rather than just a tactic). There is a deeper combo I wanted to add (Mutanite economy related), but it requires a larger understanding of the rhythm of gameplay. There's also more inherent combos in the elemental and Boosting systems, and I will likely cover them in the future. This also goes along with Joey Vigour's suggestion of getting more into the "throwing" gameplay. Anyway, this is starting to feel like one of those recipe websites where they talk forever instead of giving you what you came for, so here are the combos!

Full Card Sets

If you're interested in digging in even more, you can see all cards in the game:

Press

I'm continuing to spread the game in online groups and ads and have some interviews and a review coming up. Backers that have done similar have been quite helpful, so please keep spreading the word. I know I keep saying it, but every single post really does help raise awareness for the game. Dash City won't destroy itself on its own!

Thanks!

Over 50% Funded! New "How to Play in 3 Mins" Video!
over 3 years ago – Mon, Jan 11, 2021 at 09:10:33 AM

Here we go!

In an interesting turn of events, we have gained momentum despite being further into the project -- we are now over 50% funded, and I feel like we've turned a corner. Very exciting, so thank you and welcome to our new backers! (And of course thank you to all our backers participating in the community and spreading the word!)

How to Play Video

The big piece of content I've been working on is the concise How to Play video that now sits under the main project video. This is so hopefully folks who are excited by the main video can continue to learn more with something a bit deeper and more explicit without having to spend a lot of time or scroll forever. Here it is:

A big THANK YOU to Mark Streed and The Dice Tower for providing me with the footage for the video. It was still a ton of work to edit / voiceover / caption but it would have been doubled if I also had to film it.

In the future, I would love to complement the video with an image that spells out cool combos in the game (perhaps 2-3 cards next to each other, row by row, with a short explanation next to each). It would be like Combo Spotlight but very quick to digest. I think the new video and potential image are the one-two gameplay punch needed to quickly show folks looking at the page:

1) What the meat of this game is

2) Why it's cool!

Looking forward to keeping this train rolling! Next stop, Dash City!

Outreach + Improving the Campaign
over 3 years ago – Sat, Jan 09, 2021 at 02:00:12 AM

Hi all! A continued welcome to our new backers!

I've been discussing the campaign with many Kickstarter creators in an effort to make it more successful. In addition to the survey feedback I discussed in the previous update, it seems there is consensus around the following:

  • Project awareness/outreach is lacking
  • Gameplay is unclear unless you watch a long video
  • Game name is an issue

I thought I'd gotten the game out there throughout conventions, mailing lists, past backer emails, online groups, and so on, but it's clear I can do a better job spreading the word. So, I'll do that! In addition, if you are able to tell 1 or 2 folks about the campaign, that would be super helpful. Let's make this game happen!

As mentioned previously, moment-to-moment gameplay is hinted at but not explicitly mentioned in an easy to read fashion. I'm working on some combination of video and/or imagery to tell folks how to play.

Game name is a tricky one. Long ago I considered renaming it, but every other name felt a bit generic. I thought about my favorite cartoons from when I was young -- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, Captain Planet, Thundercats -- they all have unique and weird names, most of which resonate much better when sung in a theme song. Once I came up with the "Masters of Mutanite" vocal progression, I knew that that had to be the title if it had a proper cartoon-like intro video. What's challenging is that, if you DON'T see the video, the name just sounds kind of weird and doesn't explain what the game is about. I'm considering renaming it, but I'm not quite there yet. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Kickstarter Critique on Bower's Game Corner

Great thoughts here from Bower. So many things I've thought about while looking over the page.

Gameosity Coverage

Quote from Brian Henk

Brian Henk of Pull the Pin Games (New Salem, The Zorro Dice Game) had this to say:

"Masters of Mutanite is one of the most fun games I've ever playtested. It has unique mechanics, is very thematic (you can throw cars!), and has crunchy decisions about how to combo your powers. Look how the board comes alive."

Thanks Brian!

Next time I'll likely have another Combo Spotlight for you guys.

Remember, if you want to play Masters of Mutanite right now, you can do so on Tabletop Simulator.

Have a great Friday!

Solo Mode SG, Kickstarter Exclusive Powers SG, Page Additions, Combo Spotlight
over 3 years ago – Fri, Jan 08, 2021 at 12:07:16 AM

Welcome, Newcomers, to Dash City!

Welcome to all new backers! We're over $10,000!

Additions and Page Changes

In the last update I sent a survey to figure out how to better refine the page. A bunch of you filled it out, so thank you! Some major takeaways were:

  • Deckbuilding and powers are super appealing to you
  • Moment-to-moment gameplay isn't clearly explained
  • Stretch goals could be more meaningful
  • Kickstarter exclusives would be nice
  • Character/world lore is lacking

I've made a number of changes to the page based on your feedback to better serve you guys and also attract new backers:

  • Replaced Black-and-White Tray stretch goal with Solo Mode stretch goal
  • Replaced Larger Zones stretch goal with Kickstarter Exclusive Powers stretch goal
  • Modified the project image to feature Power Cards, and the project descriptions to mention Spatial Deckbuilding
  • Added new graphic at the top of the page with key features of the game
  • Changed Combo Spotlight to video form to better feature gameplay (see below)
  • I'm working on a concise How To Play video for the top of the page (thinking ~1 min long) and possibly more lore for the page

Keep the feedback coming :)
